'Stillpoint' test press issues (audio included)

Updated: Oct 2

Greetings to all supporters of this project... and anyone else who may be reading this post.

I invite you to listen to the first few minutes of each side of the test presses as a soundtrack to reading this: https://soundcloud.com/purl/stillpoint-vinyl-test-press-issues/s-tjQiWjqXARp

I'll try to keep this short. First, I tried coordinating receiving the test presses when I was in Sweden, but since they were delayed 3 weeks past the initial 8 week time period, I instead received them in Türkiye, where I do not have a record player I trust. I worked with what was available to me here, and had an incredibly deep experience listening to the album on vinyl for the first time, and I believed the press was successful - I even made a video in the excitement and posted it on IG and Facebook. I had noticed some pitch wobbles here and there but was totally sure it was due to the belt or motor of the old player being worn-out, however I decided to make sure by listening to the presses on another turntable. Through the help of my resourceful wife, I connected with a local vinyl aficionado who kindly let me use his rig. To my amazement, the pitch issues were still there... I then proceeded to purchase a new player here (though it will be sent back - another story) to go deeper with this, listening to the other copies I had received, and indeed, this press has pitch inaccuracies in specific places. I of course immediately began to investigate what may be causing them, and also reported this fact to the pressing plant.

There is no telling how long it will take to get a new test press done, and the first step is naturally to figure out the cause of the problem and correct it. I warmly welcome input from anyone with experience in this matter (reach out to me here on the contact page, or via Purl's Bandcamp: https://purl.bandcamp.com/

We'll get this fixed, no doubt, but obviously we will be set back a bit further in terms of time.

Ludvig
